Documents by Readdle is one of those iPad apps that you need to install on day 1 and never delete it from your device. Documents allows you to download any file and view them using their in-app launchers. This means you can literally work with your iPad like any other Mac or PC. Although we have seen lots of file sharing app over the last couple of years, there is none that can match to the elegance and simplicity that documents has to offer. In this review we are gong to explain the in-depth features and functionality of this free app and determine why it’s a must have for each and very iPad user on the planet.
Features
As soon as you launch Documents you will be presented with an interface that looks a lot like any traditional file explorer in either Mac or Windows. Its clear that these guys at Readdle Studios ensured that they don’t leave out a single feature inside their app. On the left panel you have links to the basic functionalities like iCloud, document, storage settings etc. You also get to see a list of recently opened documents in this panel. The default folder and file browsing takes place on the right side of your iPad screen. Jut like any traditional file viewer you will find yourself playing with this app in no time. The entire application is designed so neatly that you will never ever find yourself lot no matter how huge your file stash may look like.
The coolest thing about Readdle’s documents that it comes with its own file viewing launchers and is completely independent from Apple’s ecosystem. By default you will get a bunch of sample PDF’s, music, texts etc. that you can choose to keep or delete them. These samples instantly shows you the power of Documents and the extent to which it can be used in your day to day working culture. There is a dedicated search bar at the top that lets you search for any particularly file and even search by typing the content present within a particular item. This feature is effective and accurate that we highly suggest it to anyone storing hundreds of files. All your documents on the big right hand panel can either new viewed in list or thumbnail mode and comes packed with filters like sort by date, sort by size and sort by name.
Functionality
Readdle’s Documents app is perfect when it comes to features as well as functionality. Me thing that separates this iPad application from others is the ability to download. And listen to music files using their in-app music player. This means you do no that’ve to sit and worry about iTunes not being able to handle those tons of music synced with Box or DropBox. Speaking of cloud services, we think Documents provides the largest selection of cloud syncing ever present on any iPad app till date. To start with you obviously get your default iCloud syncing. The settings panel lists numerous Cloud services along with a dedicated feature to sync your wireless hard drive. All these services are pretty easy to set up and all you need to remember is your username and password. I doubt whether you are using so many cloud syncing at once, nevertheless Readdle’s Documents ensured that everyone’s request gets catered with a humongous catalogue.
The settings panel also allows you to set a predefined style for the PDF and text editors. You can tweak things like font size and family alongside other nitty gritty stuff like showing page numbers, changing PDF reader to default iOS client and so forth. There is nothing left out in this app and I am constantly saying this because I genuinely feel that this app is a perfect build with no flaws whatsoever.
Conclusion
Documents by Readdle is the ultimate file explorer for your iPad. I mean there is nothing you cannot do with this app. Their in-built softwares for reading documents, writing text etc. is fantastic and extremely easy to use. The backbone of documents is a powerful and intelligent search engine that lets you find anything by trying what’s inside a particularly file. Their inbuilt music player can be a game changer in itself. Overall, we cannot believe that this app and free and I personally would have bought it even it costed me. A perfect app is rare to find in the ever growing iPad App Store but Readdle’s Documents is defiantly one of those. If you are not using this app then there is a lot you are missing on your iPad. Go grab it now!
